FAQs
1) What is a psychiatrist?

A psychiatrist is a type of medical doctor who has completed medical school and worked in a training program, called a residency. Some psychiatrists choose to sub-specialize in their areas of interest by completing additional fellowships, such as in child and adolescent psychiatry. Psychiatrists can prescribe medication.

Some psychiatrists offer additional treatment options in their practice, such as talk therapies, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

When caring for a patient, psychiatrists often collaborate with other physicians, as well as other mental health professionals such as psychologists, nurses, and social workers.

2) Where do you hold sessions?

I hold sessions in my office and online via the HIPAA-compliant patient portal. We can decide together which method works the best. Most people usually do a combination based on what works for their schedule and mental health needs.

3) Do you take insurance?

My practice is out-of-network with insurance companies. I do not bill insurance companies directly or take responsibility for collecting from them. I provide patients with detailed invoices every month, which they can submit to their insurance for reimbursement. Unreimbursed health expenses can also be potentially claimed on taxes. Please reach out to me for the most up-to-date cost for sessions.

4) What is your cancellation policy?

If you let me know through the patient portal, email, phone, or text at least one business day in advance, I will waive the cancellation fee. If it is less than 24 hours, I will try to reschedule for that calendar week. However, if I am unable to do so, you will be charged your full fee for that session. For no-show sessions, you are also charged your full fee. The reason is that I am reserving this time for you. This policy applies to both in-person and telepsychiatry appointments.
